Tour description

Sopron deserves the "town of museums" title. Walking on the streets historical ages come to life in front of our eyes, baroque houses with enchanting renessaince interior, buildings where kings have been crowned, and musicians (like Franz Liszt) have been composing. The Fire Tower serves as the emblem of the town, its lower parts were built on wall ruins from the Roman era. During the walk in the Old City we visit the Storno House, the Fabricius House, the Pharmacy House, the Gambrinus House, the Zichy, Eggenberg, Széchenyi and Lackner Palaces, the St. George, the St. Michael and the Goat Church with the beautiful Chapter House.

Today Kőszeg is one of the most attractive towns in Hungary (also called Hungary's Jewel Box), which was awarded the Hild Prize (Hungarian architecture prize) in 1978 for preserving its architectural heritage. We visit the beautiful, tiny Old Town of medieval atmosphere (Sacred Heart Church, the Sgrafitto House, the Pharmacy Museum, Firewatch Tower, Heroe's Gate and many more)and the Jurisics Castle.

Léka (Lockenhaus at the Austrian border) is an ancient castle of Hungarian knights. It was the first castle made of stone in the western borderland. Its name was first mentioned in historical records during the Mongol invasion of the 13th century. The writer Paul Anton Keller purchased it in 1956, who established a museum and a hotel here. Visit inside the castle includes the rectangular Chapel Tower, built in the 13th century, the halls and rooms boasting carved, early gothic windows and frescos, the once-upon-a-time kitchen, the castle's prison in the underground part of the pentagonal Old Tower, the beautiful Hall of Knights, built also in the 13th century, and the supposed chapel and meeting place of the Hungarian Templars's Order.

Tour includes: Private guide, chauffeured transportation from your hotel and back
